Love.Spring.Flowers.

Matt & I got to head out of dodge for a little romantic getaway up the Cali coast last week taking in the fresh ocean air and thousands of wildflowers. Up in Big Sur we hiked every day exploring the trails and feasting our eyes on the beauty that spring brings ~ wild iris, poppies, calla lilies and so many more. We made "camp" in a tent/cabin equipped with a queen size bed, 6 layers of blankets, candles and a bottle of two-buck-chuck as we listened to the river rushing by. We had such a great time breaking up the routine and spending some time without all of the distractions that life at home brings. It was perfect.

Sure we missed the kids, but it made coming home to them so much more enjoyable and also gave us some time to talk about trips that we want to do as a family. If there's one thing I believe is necessary for a marriage (especially with kids), it's taking the time to nurture the love of your life. After all, once the children are grown and out on their own won't it be nice to really know the one that captured your heart in the first place?

To my Matt:
I love you for all that you are and for taking the time to care for our relationship as husband and wife. You truly bless me....

Feelin' Irish (sort of)

We spent Saturday morning downtown taking in the fumes sights from our local St. Patrick's Day Parade. LOTS of cars in this "green" parade, but the little ones had a blast and that made it all worth while.

Just the big girls

Last month I met up with my mum in good ol' Arizona for some big girl time. No kids. No responsibilities. No stress. We had a great time just being big girls and following wherever the days led us. We spent one night in Sedona and slept in the next morning lounging around the hotel room with no particular agenda (which was a luxury in and of itself). We then ventured out for a helicopter tour, shopping til I dropped (literally), and a beautiful hike before we hightailed it back to Scottsdale.

It was a joy to have some one-on-one time with my mum and a break from the daily routine. Thanks mum for the invite! Let's make this an annual tradition:)

Tidbits

I know my posting habits have been atrocious as of late so here's a little taste of our recent adventures...

Last month we went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park on a mini getaway. We only got to spend half the day (due to rainy weather) but it was fun to see the animals out in larger spaces than usual and great to play in the rain.

We also visited my Uncle and Aunt for the weekend and had a great time catching up and exploring their beautiful gardens. My aunt is a passionate gardener and has at least 5 different types of gardens on their property. The newest being the succulent garden that I fell in love with.

More winter adventure stories coming soon...
